They should know because there’s a big difference between large and insanely huge. 
I originally got 1,400 gems for my path leftovers, which seemed perfectly reasonable without actually having gone in and calculated it beforehand. (I’m at level 1,636 and it would’ve taken me maybe years to get to level 2,000, so being awarded 1,400 gems over that amount of time is logical). But suddenly seeing 40,000+ is obviously wrong.
