The Future of Gems of War on PS4/Xbox

I don’t think anything major after the guild update has ever been mentioned. Maybe the game will be considered complete except for some new kingdoms and troops which could be planned months in advance.

I saw that comment about being synced up and staying that way and that’s why I asked my question.
Because if that’s truly the plan then PC/Mobile will be pushed back and that sucks for us because consoles are irritating.

I wish that there wasn’t that line between consoles and PC. that they could be developed on the same so there would be no porting or exclusives… Things could be shared (like linked accounts). Basically it’s just be a portable inferior PC (which it almost essentially is right now but with irritating downsides)

it’s almost common knowledge that consoles are inferior in power and utility but try to compensate with exclusives, simplicity (can’t upgrade your consoles), price is debatable (you need computer knowledge on PC to build your own so that it’s a reasonable and comparable price) but it does have its mobility perk.

Even though PC technically has the most exclusives - indie games - I’d pay anything to have the upcoming God of War game on my PC. Which is why I’ll be forced into buying a console and hooking it up to my 4K monitor and playing it as if it’s my PC, except it’ll run worse and look worse. But at least I’ll be able to play the exclusives! Essentially the only downside to PC is that I can’t have my console exclusives so I’m forced to spend more money than necessary.

I typically don’t give in to buying a console until there’s that game I absolutely have to have and the price is low. The new last of us is what I’m waiting for, then I’ll be picking up God of War with it.

No exclusives, limiting all the ridiculous fees, and having everything in line with PC would really help out indie developers. They make really awesome games that I wish more people could enjoy. Would be awesome if they had a chance to expand to console but from my understanding Microsoft and Sony makes that difficult. Microsoft could easily do that and make a Windows like gaming software and market it together that help the two sync up and get rid of exclusives as long as its on the Windows store. Would make set them apart from Sony.

That got extremely side tracked but I just had to rant about my console frustrations haha

This comment lets me know you have exactly no idea what you are talking about. Microsoft is doing that very thing right now as we speak. Xbox one and PC are linked with windows 10. The exclusives that Xbox are getting this year will be on pc. All the developers have to do is click a button essentially and it goes to both platforms. Microsoft also has openly said any game that wants a shared ecosystem between PC and Xbox can do so. (unless it’s a fps because mouse is superior to controller) Just as an example Rocket League right now has players from Xbox and PC playing together. They’ve even said if Sony wants to do that as well they can, as far as PS4-Xbox-PC players all playing together. Xbox is getting an influx of PC indie games monthly because of the Windows 10 link up.

Sony has taken the stance of not working with Microsoft as of late

This is actually probably what’s holding it back. You wouldn’t link up with 1 system and not both.

They could link up if allowed by Sony / MS, I think allowed is the problem. Technically, linking the games is extremely easy since most of the game runs locally, they have all the player data, and it only hits their server for match making and the victory screen and a few other things.

The developers have stated that a major issue is that linking Gems of War to PC would allow a player to enjoy the benefits of a DLC purchase they made on a separate platform (for which Sony/MS did not see revenue). This is acceptable for Steam and iOS/Android, but is not acceptable for either console ecosystem. Therefore it’s not just Sony vs. MS.

Yeah that actually makes a lot of sense to me, but even if you could get past that aspect, Sony would still never allow the link to Xbox. If they aren’t going to do it for a major game like Rocket League, I don’t think they would for this one either unfortunately.

Big difference between linking a mp action game and something like gems. I think gems only hits the Sony / MS servers for purchases and the initial match making. Probably a few other things, but a mp game doesn’t get much simpler then gems when it comes to server interactions that’s not a gems owned server.

It’s bigger than that though in their eyes, because it’s still console players playing against PC players. That sort of thing still has to be approved. It’s still a process. There still has to be cooperation between Sony and Xbox to have all systems linked.

It’s just the difference between can and may lol

Sony WAS all for it when the newest systems were launched and Microsoft said no.

Fast forward a few years, Sony won the Console Wars, Microsoft comes crawling back, Sony laughs in their face.

You don’t need to be rude.
I didn’t realize they made an announcement saying they were doing that exact thing in June. I am a few months behind on that news. I have a busy enough life that I only have enough time to really look into things I care about (and console doesn’t make that list) so unless I stumbled across it on accident, I typically am a few months behind. You could have politely informed me rather than being aggressive unnecessarily.

Up until now they have never done that and it’s been common knowledge that Xbox have exclusives that PC doesn’t and yet they have an operating system for PC and could easily have smushed them together. I am pleased that they have decided to do just that. I think that’s a very smart choice and much better for those consumers that buy games on both console and PC and for indie devs. And I think they are better off marketing them both together as a fluid system.

Now if only Microsoft had exclusives I actually cared about. Sony has the best exclusives in my opinion

I wish that Sony would make an operating system and link it up with their console. That would be awesome. But obviously I doubt that will happen in the foreseeable future

Neither console has many exclusives. I do prefer the Xbox controller as the PS one is wafer light.

Id never use a PC for gaming. Too much hassle when you just want a quick game. I’ll keep my laptop for emails, shopping and porn.

Sorry I just get triggered when PC players throw misinformed hatred on consoles. Times are changing. Consoles are basically PCs now. I say that lightly, but a lot of things are similar. There will always be certain restrictions, but restrictions that I personally don’t mind. Anyway sorry for…let’s say being rude. Good vibes.

Unfortunately, consoles and PCs are converging in the wrong direction: PCs are becoming more like consoles, rather than consoles becoming more like PCs. Microsoft’s moves to bridge the gap is just the latest in their classic approach of embrace, extend, extinguish. They want everything to be Windows exclusive, and only available via the Windows store, so they can get their cut.

Microsoft largely won the OS war by being the open platform. Now they’ve changed course and are chasing Apple’s success with the iPhone and their app store, trying to mimic their model. It won’t be good for the industry or the consumer, just Microsoft. They didn’t give Windows 10 away out of the goodness of their hearts.

Wrong. They are essentially doing what valve did with steam. Important to note there will be Xbox/Microsoft games available on steam as well. They are restricting nothing. If they own the studio that makes the games, then they get to choose where THEY sell their games. Everyone else has a choice. If you don’t want to buy anything off the windows marketplace you don’t have to, but if you want one of their games, then yeah you do. Nothing valve isn’t doing.

Microsoft some big monster when every other company is doing the same thing? Nah.

If you think I’m wrong, then you’ve either misread my statement, or haven’t followed Microsoft’s actions over the years. There is a difference between what they want, and what they think they can get away with. They’ve tested the waters for decades, trying to implement very anti-consumer changes to the home computer industry, and those efforts have mostly failed due to consumer pushback. Trusted Computing and the Universal Windows Platform are the first things to come to mind, but they’re certainly not the only things Microsoft’s tried to lock down the industry and lock both developers and users into their platforms.

Maybe you see it differently, but I would say Apple and Microsoft have both pushed the industry in a better place. Again they aren’t doing anything differently than a lot of other companies. Windows is still the most used OS. So are they going to use that to try and make money? Absolutely as any other company would. Did they give Windows 10 away for free (so far) for the same reason? Absolutely. Does it really impact most average consumers? I don’t see it so. Look at Apple and all the things they control, but is anyone talking about them on the same level? nope. Again all that you’ve tried to say about how they’re handling the Windows marketplace is misinformed. They are never going to be a Valve with Steam. They’re never going to control the entire PC marketplace, but if they did? It’s just business. Any company would like to have that much control. Money rules everything. Look at why these companies started creating consoles. It was to control the living room. It’s just smart business.
