You’ve just summed up GoW. Every change and new game mode for the past…what, two years? has been pushing more and more towards a completionist’s nightmare. They’re clearly trying to use stress as a motivator.

It seems I’m still collecting souls faster than I can spend them on upgrades. I’ve got 200k more souls than when these medals started. The grinding to upgrade all troops is beyond all the previous grinds enough that I’ve thankfully given up.
