This is on PC. Windows 10, not sure of stepping.

It makes the rest of the game unplayable as I cannot see the screen. It doesn’t happen all the time but it happens it often not.

To make your chat active again, you will need to hit the spot on the screen for the chat button at the top middle of the screen.

With the chat window active, look for the little green arrow near the bottom. Click the arrow and select “inactive chat fade” and slide it all the way to the left. Should fix your problem.

It’s a feature for players who like to see chat while playing. You can turn it off as Papa described.
